What free/shareware software is available to audibly improve a voice recording?
I have a voice recording as a WAV file and I would like to a remove a chunk of speech in the middle and to minimise interfering background noise. I would also like to convert to MP3.
Many thanks in advance
Audacity is excellent but you will need to download the lame encoder in order to export to mp3; I prefer Wavepad because it is much easier to use

click on “download wavepad” for the free version; if prompted to download additional software during installation, DON’T as it isn’t free. Just install wavepad
Go to open file to load your wav file; it has a ton of features which you will find under EDIT or EFFECTS. When you are satisfied, go to File>Save File As and select mp3 from the menu.

Hi,
Audacity is probably the best software for your needs.
It is free to download, easy to use and yet has a lot of functionalities like editing wav and mp3 files.
In the past I also used Cool Edit for noise reduction, but I would advise you to try Audacity first.
Follow this link to read more about Audacity, watch an instructional movie and download the program.

Good look
